The ultimate plan for a kickass weekend
Want to combat the Monday Blues once and for all? Maximize your weekend with this ultimate plan.
We can all agree that weekends are too short. The “Monday Blues” has become a widespread epidemic from which few people are immune. If you’re worried your prognosis is grim, here’s a few ways to make the most of your weekends.
1. Don’t watch too much TV
Spending more than two hours a day in front of the TV is unadvisable on any day of the week. But couch surfing on the weekends will eat up your time like nothing else. Put down the remote and opt for a more engaging activity. While you’re at it? Unplug completely and reap the benefits of a technology-free weekend!
2. Get outside
Nothing is worse than not seeing sunlight for 48 hours. Get back to nature by heading out on a hike, or even just a stroll around the neighborhood. There’s plenty to see outside, and providing your brain with some unique stimuli is a sure-fire way to transform your weekend from drab to divine… or at least decent.
3. Wake up early
Many of us enjoy sleeping in on the weekends – sometimes until the early afternoon. But if you’re wondering why Monday morning comes around far too quickly, it could be because you’re only awake for a fraction of the weekend! Make the best of the time you have by setting your alarm on Saturdays and Sundays. As unpleasant as it sounds, you’ll be grateful when 2:00 rolls around and you’ve already vacuumed, exercised, and consumed two whole meals.
4. Plan ahead
If you’re not careful, a lot of time can wasted on the weekends sitting around like the buzzards in “The Jungle Book” asking yourself what you want to do. To avoid this situation, set aside some time on Friday evening to plan what the following two days will look like! Check the weather to strategize your schedule accordingly, and be sure to leave a few extra hours for unplanned activities to add some spontaneity to your organization.
5. Do something different
What did you do last weekend? Was it the same thing you did the weekend before that? If you can’t remember the last time you spent a weekend doing something out of the ordinary, consider switching it up! Check online for a list of events happening in your city. Nothing going on? Take matters into your own hands and try something you’ve been meaning to try for a while – take an art class, practice yoga, find a new recipe to make… the options are endless!
Chances are, we’re still a far cry away from following Sweden and the Netherlands in converting to a four-day work week, but that doesn’t mean we can’t maximize our days off. So make the best of your time this weekend and remember; you can always call in sick on Monday.
